About The Workshop at Macy’s

The Workshop at Macy’s is an exclusive retail vendor development program designed to give select high potential minority and/or women business owners the tools to better succeed and sustain growth in the retail industry.

Macy’s is one of the nation’s premier omnichannel retailers, with iconic brands offered in about 885 stores coast to coast, under the names Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Bloomingdale’s Outlet, and Bluemercury, as well as the macys.com, bloomingdales.com, and bluemercury.com websites.

Macy’s offers power assortments and the best brands, tailored to each and every customer with obvious value, engaging service and unforgettable moments. We surprise and delight customers with unique and interesting fashion merchandise – including exclusive brands they won’t find elsewhere.

We’re continually looking for new ways to delight the customer, deliver value and build sales and profits. We’ve long been recognized for our commitment to fostering the growth and development of our vendor resources, including minority- and woman-owned enterprises. Having a supplier base that reflects our diverse customer base gives us a tremendous competitive advantage, particularly because it enables us to source distinctive merchandise to present in our stores.

We launched the Workshop at Macy’s, our first business development program, in 2011 to foster growth in the next generation of minority- and women-owned merchandise suppliers, and we’ve seen tremendous success for Macy’s and for Workshop participants, many of whom describe the experience as “life-changing.” (Visit our alumni page to hear their stories!)

In 2014, our company’s purchases from minority- and women-owned businesses totaled about $1.1 billion – surpassing the billion dollar mark for the first time, including purchases from some of our 71 Workshop at Macy’s graduates.

We’re now accepting applications for the next Workshop class, which will be held in April 2016. To apply, review the eligibility requirements and submit your application before 11:59 p.m. EST on January 31, 2016.

And the Workshop is free. Yes, you read that right. To learn more and get details on how to apply, see the program overview.
