The Workshop at Macy’s is an exclusive retail vendor development program designed to give select high potential minority and/or women business owners the tools to better succeed and sustain growth in the retail industry.

About The Workshop at Macy’s

Macy’s is a premier national omnichannel retailer with iconic brands that serve customers through outstanding stores and dynamic online sites. We recognize that the customer is paramount and that all actions and strategies must be directed towards providing a localized merchandise offering and shopping experience to targeted customers through dynamic online sites.

We have a long history of business innovation – in 2014, Fast Company named Macy’s one of the Top 10 Most Innovative Retailers. We’re continually looking for new ways to delight the customer, deliver value and build sales and profits. We’ve long been recognized for our commitment to fostering the growth and development of our vendor resources, including minority- and woman-owned enterprises.

We launched the Workshop at Macy’s in 2011 to foster growth in the next generation of minority and women-owned merchandise suppliers, and have seen tremendous success for Macy’s and for Workshop participants, many of whom describe the experience as “life-changing.” (To hear from some of our alumni directly, visit our alumni page.)

In 2013, our company’s purchases from minority- and women-owned business enterprises totaled about $955.1 million – up 34 percent from 2012, including purchases from multiple Workshop at Macy’s alumni. In 2015, the Workshop at Macy’s will mark its fifth year of success mentoring and fostering up-and-coming minority- and women-owned businesses; see the press release to find out more.

Having a supplier base that reflects our diverse customer base gives us a tremendous competitive advantage, particularly because it enables us to source distinctive merchandise to present in our stores – creating a better, more personalized shopping experience and driving bottom–line business results for Macy’s and for our vendors.

To help achieve this goal, we’ve developed the innovative Workshop at Macy’s, an exclusive retail vendor development program designed to give select high potential minority and/or women business owners the tools to better success and sustain growth in the retail industry.

And it works. The first vendors to graduate from the Workshop at Macy’s began launching lines in Macy’s stores in May 2012. Others have followed, with many more to come.

To help us identify the best candidates for participation in this groundbreaking program, we’re now accepting applications for the next Workshop class, which will be held in April 2015. To apply for this program, described as “life-changing” by past participants, review the eligibility requirements and submit your application before 11:59 p.m. EST on February 1, 2015.

And the program is free. Yes, you read that right. To learn more and get details on how to apply, read the program overview.
